Mum Fundraiser
Fundraiser | Owen's Nursery
We are grateful for Owen's nursery and the opportunity to sell mums to lower the cost to play the sport you love! See below for more information!
How it Works
Each 2-gallon mum is sold for $20. You will use the sales form to track all orders and provide a total to the organization at the end. Feel free to post on Facebook and tell your friends and family! It's always great to have the players try to sell on their own to earn their keep and to develop life skills. Once the orders are due, send us your totals and be prepared to deliver your mums in September! Read each section below for more detailed information . . .
Sales & Profit
Each 2-gallon mum is sold for $20, while Owen's is charging us $12.50 each. For every mum sold, you will put $7.50 toward your fees!
If you already paid in full, you will get a check written to you from the organization.
If you paid the commitment fee, but are choosing the payment plan, your sales will be deducted from your final payment, working backwards.
How to collect Money / Checks
IMPORTANT: Do not have individuals write checks out to the organization. In order to make this process more manageable, checks can be written to you personally as the seller. You will cash your own individual checks, then at the end, you will write one check to the coach. The coach will write one check to the organization for all team sales.
Note: You can also accept Venmo, but be sure that funds are sent to you as friends and family so you are not charged for selling "goods or services." You will be responsible for any funds lost with this type of transaction (luckily it's minimal if you make that mistake).
Forms & Flyers
Due Date
All orders are due to the organization by August 15th for processing.
Pickup & Delivery
All coaches will be responsible for coordinating their team's pickup time at Owen's Nursery with assistance from our 1:9 Treasurer/Secretary, Ashley Haws. No individuals will pickup orders outside of the team's designated time slot per Owen's Nursery.
You will work as a team to pickup all mums and take them to a staging area (Not at Owen's Nursery) where you will divide the entire team order into each individual player order. Players are then responsible for delivering mums to their supporters.
We recommend having multiple trailers ready to go! Even a mini-van with all seats removed can only haul 12 mums--they are huge!
Fundraiser | FAQs
How big are the mums?
Umm . . . HUGE!!! 2-gallon mums go inside an 8 ¾ diameter pot, and the plant itself can be up to 2ft. in diameter. Take a look at the pics at the bottom of this page.
Are these hardy mums?
Technically yes, they are hardy mums, but Owen's Nursery does not guarantee them to come back if you plant them as our climate does not always allow for the mum to come back the next year.
Are these perennials or annuals?
Technically they are perennials, but Owen's Nursery does not guarantee them to come back if you plant them as our climate does not always allow for the mum to come back the next year. We have had customers plant them and they have come back the next season, but they don’t always survive.
It is supposed to rain on pickup day, is there a plan B because of the rain?
No, I’m sorry this is a great fundraiser but it does have some downfalls. One of them is if it rains, we still need to load during our pickup time.
Is there a minimum amount of mums required to be sold?
No, we have what we need as an organization. This is our way of helping you! We have some that choose not to sell mums at all, and we have some who sell enough that it covers all their player fees.
What happens if we sell MORE than enough to cover player fees?
Any mums sold that leave a player with a credit on their account will be applied to the team budget to be used at the coach's discretion.
If I get a 53’ van trailer for mums, how many fit on a trailer?
If loaded correctly, it is over 150 mums.
What do you mean loaded correctly?
Owen's Nursery will help you, but there is a specific way you pickup the mums, a specific way you should put the mum down, and then you slide the mums in tight with each other and it won’t break them. You have to be fairly careful because when handling the mums, if you drop them right next to each other and part of the plant breaks, the plant will not survive as long. However, you can get them in pretty tight to maximize room when transporting. You just have to place the mum down and slide them into each other.
Does Owen's Nursery guarantee colors?
No they do not. They do place stickers on each pot but they will fall off sometimes. Please do the best you can to separate mums by color. Bring stakes with you or something to separate each color so you know where one color starts and the other begins in your trailers.
