Team Budgets

Each coach will have a portion of the player fees to use at their discretion with some guidance from the organization. Once your roster is established, and initial player fees are collected, a ledger (online) will be provided for you to track expenditures for tournaments, home games (umpires), and any equipment needs you may have. Additional funds acquired through fundraising will go toward each team's budget for team activities, extra training opportunities, etc.

Player Fee Collection and Registration Form

Each coach will assist the organization in collecting player fees. The organization is ultimately responsible for collection, deposits, and updating the ledger, however, coaches will be the primary point of contact. It's the coach's responsibility to send out reminders to families to ensure timely payments.

Registration Form

Players must register for 1:9 Legacy using this form. This form is important as it pertains medical information and the athlete waiver the parents will sign.

Commitment fees

Coaches must collect $325 commitment fees by August 1 for their respective teams and turn them in to Ashley Haws for deposit. She can be reached at (815) 762-9109 or 19legacy.org@gmail.com

Remaining Fees

In order to be eligible for the $100 pay in full discount, coaches must collect remaining player fees by September 1st. If a family chooses to use the payment plan, collection dates will be Oct. 1, Dec. 1, and Feb. 1. Any fees missing will come out of the team's budget and may limit playing opportunities. Players that are not up to date with payments will not be issued uniforms or other items in the player package.

Fundraiser Credit

The Mum Fundraiser will take place before the September 1st deadline, so you will know your remaining balance to make an informed decision on your preferred payment method (payment plan or pay in full). Any credits from the Mum Fundraiser will be deducted from the final payment(s) for those who choose the payment plan. For those paying in full, a final amount will be due September 1st.

Indoor Facility

1:9 Legacy is partnering with Double Play to offer weekly time slots for each team to practice indoors. This will start in October and run through April. The week of Thanksgiving will be off, and the indoor schedule will shut down in December to accommodate DP's needs. Spring Break (Unit 5) will also be a week off the indoor schedule.

Players will also have individual memberships to book 20 hours on their own throughout the season.

Outdoor Facility

1:9 Legacy is continuing a partnership with Eastview Christian Church. The field will be accessible on occasion in the fall, and more regularly starting on April 1st. Coaches are responsible for dragging and lining their own fields before games. If field supplies are getting low, please send a message on GroupMe and reach out to Ken Meisner.

In the event of rain, there is a field drying kit (black and red rubbermaid tub) which includes extension cords and a submersible pump to remove standing water. Coaches should clean these items after use to keep them in good shape for a long time.

Uniforms

Apex Clothing Co. will be the vendor for uniform tops and hats. All other items will be purchased separately as a cost effective measure and to ensure items arrive in a timely manner. The colors of 1:9 Legacy are Navy, Columbia Blue, and White.

NEW in 2025: Three uniform options will be made available. Coaches will select two for their team. A button-up jersey will not be an option this season. The org. will pursue a higher quality, name brand jersey.

Uniform Package includes the following:

Apparel

Apex Clothing Co. will be the vendor for all apparel at this time. They will have an online store available to families to purchase items 24/7/365. Items can be shipped (for a cost), or use a FREE shipping option and the items will be delivered to the organization--we'll let you know when they come in.

In addition, 1:9 Legacy will have intermittent apparel orders available using items that are in stock and printed in-house. The prices on the in-house apparel will be cheaper as items are purchased in bulk and screen printed on site. This keeps costs low and raises some money for the organization. In-house items will be limited to cotton/poly blends due to difficulties encountered with performance/dri-fit apparel items.

Others should not use the 1:9 Logo to create their own spin-off apparel items without the Org's permission.

NEW in 2025: The Lion logo will be featured on more apparel as requested.

Playing Time

Hitting

Coaches will bat the entire lineup during each game throughout the season, regardless of the significance of any single game or the potential competitive disadvantage when facing a team batting a “straight nine.” Batting the entire lineup also allows the coach the opportunity to use “free substitutions” defensively.

Fielding

Coaches will strive to have each player in the game defensively during each game, and at least 2/3 of the time over the course of the season. High-impact games (tournaments) may require a set of players to incur significantly more playing time, especially at prime positions, for the sake of the team’s chances to advance in competition and extend playing opportunities for the team. Any player that does not play the field in a tournament game is expected to play without sitting at the next weekday game/double-header.

Injuries

If a player is unable to hit or play in the field due to an injury, exceptions will be made to the information above.

Concerns

If a player is not receiving the appropriate amount of playing time per the guidelines above, a parent should schedule a time to meet with a coach to discuss. The parent should not contact a board member or another affiliate with concerns until the player/parent meeting has taken place. Only after that meeting should a concerned parent contact a board member to express concerns.

Communication

Coaches are expected to provide weekly communication to families during the baseball season (April-June). During the off-season, coaches can provide updates as needed to make families aware of tryouts, uniform sizing, fundraising, etc. Here is a Google Sheet if you'd like a broken down schedule of the season to fill in and share with your families. You can put your practices and games in this document and share, that way your families always have a Live schedule to look at.

Service Opportunities

Each team is required to plan at least one service opportunity throughout the year. Participation in the Miracle League, Midwest Food Bank or other local missions are a great way to give back to the community and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Ephesians 2:10 | "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Mark 10:45 | "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Fundraising

Approved Fundraisers

Mums:

Mums will be sold by all teams through Owen's Nursery to directly offset player fees. Any previous payments made that exceed the amount of player fees after fundraising will result in a check written to the family from 1:9 Legacy. The organization does not benefit from the sale of mums, only individual players/families. Check out this website for more info!

Super Bowl Squares

This is another board-approved fundraiser that will take place in February. $500 per completed board will go directly to your team's budget. If you can't fill a complete second board, you can split it with another team.

Umpires

Scheduling

If you are needing umpires, please get Ashley a list of dates, single/DH, time, opponent and number of umpires desired as soon as possible and she will start working on scheduling. When the field schedule goes out, Ashley will put all assigned umpire(s) into the schedule with contact info.

Cancelling

If you are needing to cancel/reschedule your game, it is your responsibility to contact your umpires and let them know as soon as possible. If you give a 2+ hour notice, there will be no payment to the umpire(s). If you have to cancel/reschedule within 2 hours of start time, we will pay the umpire(s) for one game.

Paying

Below is the breakdown of how umpires will be paid from 1:9 Legacy for home games. Please complete the following form to verify all information for your game. Once the form is complete, a check will be mailed to the umpire(s). If you are splitting umpire fees for an AWAY game, please email me all information and I will mail a check to your opponent. All umpire fees will be deducted from your team budget.

Lead your team to be strong & courageous!

1:9 Legacy | Opening Day

July 2023

1:9 Legacy Coaches,

Today is "Opening Day." It's hard to believe that just over a month ago, it became official that Game 7 was no longer, and 1:9 Legacy was started. I'm grateful for the leadership of our board members and determination to continue the missional approach to athletics that G7 brought to the community nearly a decade ago. 1:9 Legacy will teach to be strong and courageous on and off the field--in the dugout, at school, at home, and in the community. 1:9 Legacy is a reference to Joshua 1:9, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

We have an opportunity to use our talents in the game of baseball/softball to make disciples as Matthew 28:16-20 commands us to do. Known as "The Great Commission," Jesus makes it clear that "all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to (Him)" and that we are to "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything (He has) commanded you." Jesus goes on to say one of the most encouraging statements that's echoed throughout the Gospels--"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The Bible is full of people who were broken, not leaders by nature, soft-spoken, insignificant--yet God called upon them to be leaders of His people. We can be a light in a dark world, leaving a Legacy for others to believe in Jesus and join in the journey. Being a 1:9 coach should look and feel different. It should be uncommon. While I wish it wasn't, you have to admit the youth sports landscape has dramatically changed since we were all kids, and it's up to us to make the adjustment and put up a fight. Pressure to develop kids year-round is at an all-time high, and if you're not turning them into D1 athletes, you're a failure, or at the very least, you need to do more. I refuse to believe that for a minute, but instead turn my focus to Christ and the long-term impact we can have on our players and families. If that sounds like a tall order, it's because it is! Just know that I am here for you to provide guidance, and more importantly, Jesus said he'd be with you every step of the way.

Thank you for having the courage to take on this leadership role. Using the words of our Statement of Faith written beautifully by Matt Wettersten, Vice President of 1:9 Legacy, I want to encourage you to be strong in your faith and courageous in sharing the news that Jesus is the son of the living God, and He willingly died on the cross to save us from our sins. He rose on the third day, claiming victory over death, so that all who believe in Him will have eternal life.

In Christ,

Jon Haws
